What are your wedding colors and/or themes?
The setting on Otsego Lake is so beautiful, we wanted to keep our colors very natural to highlight the lake and surrounding greenery. Our main color was slate blue, accented with cream, sage greens, and dark blues. While we didn’t have a theme, we wanted every focus to be on the beauty of the setting, both outdoors and in the classic details within the hotel.
What is your inspiration when planning your wedding?
While I can’t say that I didn’t spend plenty of time on Pinterest scouring ideas, we came up with most of the ideas on our own (and with the help of our vendors). Everything we chose, from the venue to the flowers and the favors, reflected us and the things we love most.
Did you incorporate any fun themes/motifs or design elements?
We wanted there to be lots of little personal touches for our guests to enjoy. Our cake was made by my college roommate, who makes the best cream cheese frosting we’ve ever had; we gave our favorite local apple cider donuts as favors; we placed thank you notes at each guest’s place settings; and we made sure everyone was able to “have your cake and eat it too” with to-go boxes that were served along with dessert.
Did you include any special traditions, old or new?
My dad’s family is Persian, so we had to be sure to include some Persian dancing in our music line-up…that has always been one of my favorite parts of family weddings that I attended when I was younger, and I knew none of our friends would be expecting how fun it is!
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
Andrew and I have been together since we were 14 years old, so there are many people who have known us at various points in our relationship and as we grew up; it was so amazing to have all those people in one room to celebrate with us – I know we’ll never be lucky enough to have that opportunity again, so that’s one of the things I will cherish and remember most about our wedding day.
